After Daniels underwent an MRI and met with consultants, the Commanders decided to not place him on injured reserve, which would have sidelined him for at least four games. He is considered week-to-week.
“Like most things, when you want to wait it out, you go through the what-ifs in your head, and sometimes those are worse than the actual news,” Quinn said. “But you just wait to get all the information you can.”
Daniels’s timeline to return remains unclear, but he has been ruled out only for Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Marcus Mariota will start in his place.
The third-year quarterback suffered the second dislocation of his left elbow in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Postgame X-rays determined that he didn’t suffer any fractures, but further evaluation was needed to put together a recovery plan.

When Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow in November, he was out for four weeks before returning to action. Washington’s decision to not place him on injured reserve means he could come back sooner this time.
“It’s just a matter of sitting down and thinking about what the best course of action is,” General Manager Adam Peters told 106.7 the Fan. “It’s just a matter of how we’re going to get him back on the field, and that’s still to be determined.”
Daniels was off to a promising start this season, connecting on 56.9 percent of his passes for 260 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions while also rushing for 100 yards.
