“Christa Pike was discharged from a local hospital and is now at Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center where she has been housed for more than 30 years,” a statement from Pike’s attorneys said. “She is grateful to the first responders and her medical team for their care in these extraordinary circumstances. She is continuing to receive medical care at the prison, and we will continue to track her recovery.”

The Tennessee Department of Correction confirmed the move and said no further information was available.

Tennessee officials attempted to execute Pike, 50, on Sept. 30. Pike continued to breathe after she was given two doses of lethal injection drugs.

The execution was halted by the state and Pike received emergency care and was transported to a hospital.

The historic failure by state officials raised questions about Tennessee’s execution protocols and led to the resignation of the state’s prison chief.

A jury sentenced Pike to death decades ago for her role in a 1995 killing she helped carry out when she was 18 alongside two other teens. Her case drew global attention because she would have been the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

Pike is the first person to survive after being injected with lethal doses of execution drugs, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, a nonprofit that monitors capital punishment.
