Where, oh, where will the WNBA finals be played?

The Atlanta Dream know whom they will play in the WNBA finals: the Golden State Valkyries. They know when they will play: Game 1 is scheduled for Oct. 17. But they do not know where they will play when the series returns to Atlanta.

Games 1 and 2 will be easy: The Valkyries play at the Chase Center in San Francisco, the same 18,000-seat arena that hosts the Golden State Warriors and that the upstart Valkyries have consistently sold out.

But the Dream will be the home team for Games 3, 4 and, potentially, 6. And at the moment, they reportedly are without a home.

The Gateway Center Arena, outside Atlanta, where they have played most of this season, can hold only 3,500 fans, so the Dream have been trying to relocate to the 17,000-seat State Farm Arena. But a Sombr concert and two Atlanta Hawks games are booked for those nights.

The Dream reportedly have checked in on the nearby 13,000-seat Gas South Arena, home of the minor league hockey Atlanta Gladiators, and Georgia Tech’s 8,600-seat McCamish Pavilion. But they have made no progress.

This won’t be a problem next year, when the Dream will be full-time tenants of State Farm Arena. But in the meantime, it’s something of a nightmare.
