Former congresswoman Katie Porter (D) said she is moving on from politics after unsuccessful runs for U.S. Senate and California governor. Instead, the three-term congresswoman is aiming to become a book influencer.

“I’m done for now with politics and campaigning,” Porter said last week on one of her Instagram accounts, which she had rebranded to “Katie Porter Turns the Page.”
“Stay tuned for book recommendations, book ideas and author content,” she added. Written on a whiteboard behind her was the hashtag #Bookstagram.
Porter, who is also a law professor at the University of California at Irvine, was first elected to the House in 2018, flipping an Orange County district. In Congress, she gained national attention for grilling banking and pharmaceutical executives in hearings, often while scribbling math equations on a whiteboard.

Instead of seeking reelection to her House seat in 2024, Porter opted to run for the seat held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D) but placed third in the state’s all-party primary and did not advance to the general election. Porter then launched her gubernatorial campaign but came in fifth in the primary with less than 5 percent of the vote.
