LeBron James announced Friday that he will join the Philadelphia 76ers, ending weeks of speculation around the NBA’s most anticipated offseason decision and choosing a fourth team for what could be the final stop of his career.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team,” James wrote on social media, “and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”
James will sign a two-year, $8 million contract that includes a player option, his agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN. The 41-year-old James said he initially believed he had played his final game last season but concluded after several weeks of reflection that he still wants to compete.
“I still truly love this game, and I have more to give,” James wrote. “This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?”

His answer is another championship. James already has four championships on his résumé and will attempt to end a Philadelphia title drought that dates to 1983.
James’s decision ends an eight-year tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers that included the 2020 NBA championship.
