LIVERPOOL, England \u2014 Mohamed Salah will say goodbye to Liverpool<\/a> on Sunday, but in what manner remains unclear after manager Arne Slot wouldn\u2019t commit to the Egypt star playing against Brentford in their Premier League season finale at Anfield.<\/p>

Salah, one of the club\u2019s greatest-ever scorers, forced the question with his criticism of Liverpool\u2019s style of play after a 4-2 loss to Aston Villa<\/a> last Friday. He called for a return to the \u201cheavy metal attacking\u201d that struck fear in opponents.<\/p>\n

The outburst \u2014 Salah\u2019s second public rift with Slot this season \u2014 adds extra drama as the team is also trying to secure Champions League qualification.<\/p>\n

Slot was asked on Friday if Salah will definitely be involved against Brentford.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never say anything about team selection,\u201d Slot responded. \u201cIt would be a surprise to you if I did this right now, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n

In March, the 33-year-old Salah announced he\u2019d be leaving at the end of the season after reaching an agreement with the club to end his contract one year early.<\/p>\n

Salah\u2019s production has dipped in his ninth year at Anfield, to such an extent that he was dropped for a stretch of games \u2014 leading to the winger telling reporters in December that the club \u201chas thrown me under the bus.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cHeavy metal\u201d football is a reference to the aggressive style favored by former manager Jurgen Klopp<\/a> .<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good,\u201d Salah wrote in a social media post. \u201cIt cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.\u201d<\/p>

With 257 goals, Salah is the third-highest scorer in Liverpool history. But he\u2019s tallied just 12 goals in 40 appearances this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cMo and I have both the same interest \u2014 we want the best for this club, we want the club to be as successful as possible,\u201d said Slot, who led the team to the Premier League title<\/a> last year in his first season in charge.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman was asked if Salah\u2019s critique could undermine what he\u2019s trying to accomplish.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are doing a lot of assumptions. You say that he wants to play that style and then say that it is not my style,\u201d Slot said. \u201cI think Mo was really happy with the style we played last season, and the fans as well, because that led to us winning the league.<\/p>\n

\u201cFootball has changed, football has evolved,\u201d Slot continued. \u201cHe and the team \u2014 and I was included in that \u2014 brought the league title back after five years and we would like to challenge for that again next season and continue to evolve the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Slot was asked if Liverpool\u2019s style has changed from last year to this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you play football, you are not the only team on the pitch,\u201d he said. \u201cThis league has become so strong that football has changed, but we have to find that right balance of still being able to compete but definitely also play the brand and the style of football the fans want to see and I want my team to play.\u201d<\/p>
