MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 Courtney Williams had 25 points and seven assists, Natasha Howard added 22 points and eight rebounds, and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Atlanta Dream 96-81 on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Minnesota\u2019s lead was 44-40 early in the third quarter before they team scored the next 13 points. The Lynx outscored the Dream 28-19 in the frame to make it 70-56 after three.<\/p>\n

Rookie Olivia Miles completed a three-point play early in the fourth for a 77-60 lead. Then Williams made a wide-open 3-pointer with 3:04 left to extend it to 88-75.<\/p>\n

All five starters for Minnesota scored in double figures. Miles finished with 16 points, Nia Coffey scored 14, and Kayla McBride had 12 for the Lynx. Minnesota had a season-high 26 assists on 40 made field goals and shot 60% from the field.<\/p>\n

Allisha Gray scored 21 points and made five 3-pointers for Atlanta, which dropped its first road game of the season. Naz Hillmon added 15 points, and Angel Reese had 10 points and eight rebounds. Rhyne Howard also scored 10.<\/p>\n

Eleven of Atlanta\u2019s 29 made field goals came from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n

Minnesota evened the season series with Atlanta 1-1 after dropping the season opener 91-90. The Lynx led by 19 points in the loss before the Dream took their first lead with 11.3 seconds left.<\/p>\n

LIBERTY 84, MERCURY 74<\/p>\n

NEW YORK \u2014 Marine Johannes scored 21 points, Jonquel Jones added 17 points and keyed a huge run to close the third quarter as New York beat Phoenix.<\/p>\n

The game was a rematch of last season\u2019s first-round playoff series that the Mercury won en route to reaching the WNBA Finals. Both teams are different this season as Satou Sabally came to New York from Phoenix. Coming into the game she was questionable to play because of an illness that forced her out of Monday\u2019s game. She warmed up but was scratched an hour<\/a> before tipoff.<\/p>\n

While Sabally was out, along with Sabrina Ionescu (back), the Liberty did welcome back Betnijah Laney-Hamilton and Leonie Fiebich. Laney-Hamilton had missed a few games for personal reasons. Fiebich was recovering from winning a Spanish league title.<\/p>\n

The Liberty (4-4) trailed 55-49 with 6:09 left in the third quarter when coach Chris DeMarco put Laney-Hamilton into the game. New York responded with a 23-0 run to close the quarter that included 10 points from Jones. The Mercury (2-6) had eight turnovers, including three on offensive fouls during the drought.<\/p>\n

New York led 72-55 heading into the final quarter and Phoenix finally ended its nearly seven-minute scoring drought with a 3-pointer in the corner from Monique Akoa Makani. The Mercury could only get within 10 in the fourth as they dropped their fourth consecutive game. It was Akoa Makani\u2019s first game of the season as she was finishing her overseas commitments.<\/p>\n

Kahleah Copper scored 19 to lead Phoenix.<\/p>\n

TEMPO 111, SKY 104<\/p>\n

CHICAGO \u2014 Nyara Sabally scored a career-high 29 points, Marina Mabrey had 24 points and seven assists, and Toronto beat Chicago.<\/p>\n

Toronto had its lead trimmed to 98-96 with 3:33 left in the fourth quarter before going on an 8-2 run to regain control. Mabrey sank a step-back jumper to make it 101-96<\/a> and Sabally added a 3-pointer for an eight-point lead with 1:43 remaining.<\/p>\n

Sabally was 11 of 14 from the floor, while Mabrey made 9 of her 13 shots to help Toronto shoot 56%. Sabally, Mabrey and Maria Conde each made three of the Tempo\u2019s 12 3-pointers.<\/p>\n

Brittney Sykes added 20 points, and rookie Kiki Rice had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for Toronto (4-4). Conde finished with 12 points off the bench.<\/p>\n

Rookie Sydney Taylor scored a season-high 27 points for Chicago (3-4). Skylar Diggins had 23 points and nine assists, and Natasha Cloud added 18 points and nine helpers.<\/p>\n

FIRE 71, SUN 61<\/p>\n

PORTLAND, Ore. \u2014 Carla Leite scored 20 points and expansion Portland won its third straight game with a victory over Connecticut.<\/p>\n

Bridget Carleton added 13 points for the Fire, who were coming off road victories over the Toronto Tempo and the New York Liberty.<\/p>\n

Aneesah Moorow had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Sun, who have just one win to open the season. The game was the last of a five-game trip that started with an 83-82 loss to the Fire in Portland.<\/p>\n

The Sun led 55-50 with 8:04 left in the game but Portland\u2019s Teja Oblak answered with a pair of baskets to get to 55-54 and the Fire pulled back in front on Frieda Buhner\u2019s layup.<\/p>\n

Buhner added a layup to make it 58-55 with 4:25 left and Portland led the rest of the way.<\/p>\n

The Sun were 0 for 13 from the perimeter in the first half. Morrow hit Connecticut\u2019s first 3-pointer with 8:23 left in the third quarter, closing the gap to 39-32.<\/p>\n

The Sun pulled within 43-42 on Olivia Nelson-Ododa\u2019s basket then took the lead on Morrow\u2019s layup and the game was tied at 50 going into the final quarter.<\/p>\n

Brittney Griner, who led the Sun with 16 points in the previous meeting with the Fire, was not available because of right rib injury. Griner remains a point away from 6,000 career points.<\/p>\n

MYSTICS 78, STORM 64<\/p>\n

SEATTLE \u2014 Shakira Austin had 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, Michaela Onyenwere made her season debut and finished with 14 points, and Washington beat Seattle.<\/p>\n

The Mystics (3-3) had lost back-to-back games and three of their last four.<\/p>\n

Kiki Iriafen added 13 points and nine rebounds for Washington. Alicia Fl\u00f3rez Getino, signed May 7 to a developmental contract, made her WNBA debut and finished with nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals with one turnover in 23 minutes.<\/p>\n

Onyenwere, who missed the first seven games due to left knee injury management, hit two 3s and scored eight points in a 12-2 opening run and the Mystics never trailed.<\/p>\n

Lexie Brown hit a 3-pointer with 7:48 left in the first half that trimmed the Storm\u2019s deficit to seven points but they went scoreless until Zia Cooke made a driving layup with 1:08 remaining before Washington took a 48-29 lead into halftime.<\/p>\n

Jade Melbourne made back-to-back layup to spark an 8-0 run to open the third quarter that made it an 11-point game but Sonia Citron scored seven points in a 13-4 spurt that pushed the lead to 20 points with 4:03 left in the period.<\/p>\n

Melbourne led the Storm (3-5) with 15 points. Mackenzie Holmes added eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds.<\/p>\n
