President Donald Trump said Monday he would be closely involved in a marquee celebration of the country\u2019s 250th anniversary, casting the July 4 event on the National Mall as one of his own rallies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to host the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all, a \u2018TRIBUTE TO AMERICA,\u2019\u201d Trump wrote<\/a> on his Truth Social platform. The event will feature the planned<\/a> largest fireworks show in history, call attention to Trump\u2019s changes<\/a> to the Lincoln Memorial\u2019s Reflecting Pool, and feature a selection of patriotic and classic songs \u2014 including Trump\u2019s own playlist, the president added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be incredible Flyovers and Airshows featuring our Top Military Pilots and Equipment, and I will deliver keynote remarks that you will not want to miss,\u201d Trump wrote. The event is set to be between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, he said.<\/p>\n

The White House did not immediately respond to questions about Trump\u2019s framing of the event as one of his rallies.<\/p>\n

Trump has increasingly recast the 250th anniversary celebrations<\/a> around him and his preferences. After many performers withdrew from the Great American State Fair<\/a>, one of the anniversary\u2019s marquee events, saying they did not realize how closely it was associated with Trump, the president said he would headline the event himself<\/a>. The White House also hosted a \u201cFreedom 250\u2033 UFC event<\/a> \u2014 one of Trump\u2019s favorite sports to attend<\/a> \u2014 on the president\u2019s 80th birthday Sunday night.<\/p>

Some supporters have cheered Trump\u2019s efforts to shape the nation\u2019s anniversary, calling Sunday night\u2019s fight at the White House an opportunity to inspire Americans.<\/p>\n

\u201cFight for freedom. Fight for our way of life. Fight for America,\u201d the Homeland Security Department \u2014 led by Markwayne Mullin, a former MMA fighter \u2014 wrote<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n

Democrats have said Trump\u2019s expanding role in the anniversary celebrations is inappropriate and potentially unethical, opening investigations into sponsorships of some of the events.<\/p>\n

Freedom 250, a public-private partnership the White House launched<\/a> last year, had previously announced the July 4 event, calling it the nation\u2019s \u201cpremier Independence Day celebration\u201d but making no mention of Trump\u2019s involvement.<\/p>\n

\u201cSet against the iconic backdrop of the National Mall, Salute to America will bring together citizens from every corner of the country to honor and celebrate the United States,\u201d Freedom 250 wrote in a release<\/a> this month.<\/p>
