President Donald Trump will honor the NBA champion New York Knicks at the White House, the team\u2019s owner says, breaking a years-long streak of the league\u2019s champions snubbing Trump.<\/p>\n

James Dolan, a friend of the president who hosted him at a game last week<\/a>, said the team was excited to accept the invitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted,\u201d Dolan said<\/a> Wednesday on WFAN sports radio. \u201cWe still have to figure out the details, etcetera, but yes, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n

NBA teams have repeatedly declined invitations to be honored by Trump, beginning in his first term.<\/p>

Trump withdrew an invitation to the Golden State Warriors in 2017 after the team\u2019s stars said they would probably decline to attend.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team,\u201d Trump tweeted<\/a>, criticizing one of the team\u2019s stars. \u201cStephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know why he feels the need to target certain individuals rather than others,\u201d Curry said in a subsequent news conference. \u201cI have an idea of why, but it\u2019s kind of beneath a leader of a country to go that route. That\u2019s not what leaders do.\u201d<\/p>
