LONDON \u2014 Don\u2019t expect to see Jannik Sinner\u2019s parents in the Royal Box at Wimbledon<\/a> anytime soon, even though they\u2019re more than welcome.<\/p>

The defending champion was asked why his mother and father weren\u2019t in attendance for his opening match on Centre Court on Monday, when last year\u2019s women\u2019s winner Iga Swiatek had her father and sister in the Royal Box the next day.<\/p>\n

Turns out Sinner\u2019s parents were also invited, but that kind of fancy affair apparently isn\u2019t their thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know my parents. I asked them, but it was impossible,\u201d Sinner said in Italian on Friday after reaching the fourth round with a straight-sets win over Jenson Brooksby<\/a> on No. 1 Court.<\/p>\n

Sinner grew up in a small Alpine village in northern Italy where his parents, Hanspeter and Siglinde, worked in a ski lodge. His father was a chef and his mother was a waitress.<\/p>

\u201cWe hardly even discussed it,\u201d Sinner said of the Royal Box invite, laughing. \u201cThey have other things to do and I understand that.\u201d<\/p>\n

His parents did come to last year\u2019s final and watched their son beat Carlos Alcaraz for the title<\/a> .<\/p>\n

There was a famous parent in the Royal Box to watch Sinner on Monday, though. David Beckham took his mother<\/a> to the match.<\/p>
