(Samuel Corum\/Pool\/For The Washington Post)<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p>President Donald Trump on Friday pardoned 11 people, most of whom were convicted of violating a federal environmental law targeting air pollution, according to a White House official.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/movinginsiderusa.com\/?p=6281\">\u2018Trump accounts\u2019 of $1,000 now available for babies<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump pardoned Joshua Davis, Matt Geouge, Jonathan Achtemeier, Tim Clancy, Ryan and Wade Lalone, Barry Pierce, Aaron Rudolf, and Mackenzie Spurlock, all of whom were convicted of violations related to the Clean Air Act, a landmark air pollution regulation passed in 1963.<\/p>\n<p>Many in the group were found to have tampered with emissions control equipment in vehicles or to have sold parts to bypass the controls in violation of the Clean Air Act.<\/p>\n<p>Trump posted on Truth Social that some of the pardons were for people \u201cpersecuted by the Biden administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for \u2018fixing their car.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his presidency, Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/2025\/08\/22\/trump-epa-noaa-scientific-integrity-policies\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/2025\/08\/22\/trump-epa-noaa-scientific-integrity-policies\/\">rolled<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/2026\/01\/29\/endangerment-finding-repeal-delay\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/2026\/01\/29\/endangerment-finding-repeal-delay\/\">back<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2020\/climate-environment\/trump-climate-environment-protections\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2020\/climate-environment\/trump-climate-environment-protections\/\">environmental<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2026\/07\/02\/energy-department-wants-weaken-efficiency-standards-home-appliances\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2026\/07\/02\/energy-department-wants-weaken-efficiency-standards-home-appliances\/\">regulations<\/a>, especially those designed to combat climate change. However, the administration recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/2026\/06\/26\/court-rules-against-trump-administration-air-pollution-limits\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/2026\/06\/26\/court-rules-against-trump-administration-air-pollution-limits\/\">lost<\/a> a major court battle over Biden-era air pollution standards.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also pardoned Adam Kidan, a major Republican donor and business partner of infamous lobbyist Jack Abramoff, the kingpin of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2005\/12\/29\/the-fast-rise-and-steep-fall-of-jack-abramoff\/56987391-1b47-414d-866e-531bc2b0a603\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2005\/12\/29\/the-fast-rise-and-steep-fall-of-jack-abramoff\/56987391-1b47-414d-866e-531bc2b0a603\/\">massive corruption scandal<\/a> that rocked Washington in the 2000s. Kidan in 2005 pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud and mail fraud conspiracy charges related to his purchase of a line of cruise ships for offshore gambling. Kidan was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archive\/opa\/pr\/2008\/March\/08_ag_246.html\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archive\/opa\/pr\/2008\/March\/08_ag_246.html\">sentenced<\/a> to nearly six years in prison in 2006 but was released in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>According to federal elections records, Kidan, who now runs a staffing agency, has donated nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/individual-contributions\/?contributor_name=adam+kidan\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/individual-contributions\/?contributor_name=adam+kidan\">$4 million<\/a> to Republican Party campaigns and committees since 2017, including those associated with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Harvard, a former Plano, Texas, mayor who was <a href=\"https:\/\/law.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/appellate-courts\/F3\/103\/412\/518741\/?__cf_chl_f_tk=iMT2PtaAtP4098WqWQcTUEV9gCrWlq5mlK2ZfOswSrg-1783177638-1.0.1.1-YDpp8v5HEMp7cCI4otDvsZJWR87joHG2ZV5pBDlwqeI\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/law.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/appellate-courts\/F3\/103\/412\/518741\/?__cf_chl_f_tk=iMT2PtaAtP4098WqWQcTUEV9gCrWlq5mlK2ZfOswSrg-1783177638-1.0.1.1-YDpp8v5HEMp7cCI4otDvsZJWR87joHG2ZV5pBDlwqeI\">convicted<\/a> of bank fraud charges in the 1990s, was also pardoned. The White House official said that Harvard \u201cturned his life around\u201d following his conviction, \u201cprotecting and raising endangered animals on his ranch, and allowing the U.S. military and NATO troops to train on his land free of charge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the first year and a half of his second term in office, Trump has wielded his clemency powers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2026\/01\/14\/trump-pardons-frustrated-prosecutors\/\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2026\/01\/14\/trump-pardons-frustrated-prosecutors\/\">grant relief to a wide array of convicts<\/a> \u2014 many of them politically connected \u2014 outside of the traditional pardon-application process.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/movinginsiderusa.com\/?p=6278\">Chourio\u2019s scratch hit in 11th breaks tie, Brewers top Diamondbacks 7-4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The day he was inaugurated for a second term, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2025\/01\/20\/trump-pardons-jan-6-defendants\/\" rel=\"\">pardoned<\/a> most Jan. 6 defendants, a sweeping action that granted clemency to more than 1,500 convicted in connection with the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, including those who assaulted police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Every recent president has exercised the pardon power to benefit his allies, but legal experts have told The Washington Post that Trump\u2019s use of clemency has bucked the norms of the process.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has pardoned some of the most high-profile public corruption and white-collar defendants prosecuted during President Joe Biden\u2019s administration, as well as some prosecuted during his own first term and some under earlier administrations.<\/p>\n<p>His list of clemency recipients includes a number of politicians: former Republican congressman George Santos of New York, Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas and former Tennessee state senator Brian Kelsey (R).<\/p>\n<p>Trump, who pledged during the campaign to crack down on the illegal flow of deadly drugs coming across the border, also granted clemency to several individuals convicted for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2025\/12\/07\/trump-drugs-pardons-hernandez-venezuela\/\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2025\/12\/07\/trump-drugs-pardons-hernandez-venezuela\/\">drug-related crimes<\/a>, including<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2025\/01\/21\/ross-ulbricht-silk-road-trump-pardon\/\" rel=\"\"> Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht<\/a>, Chicago gang leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2025\/05\/29\/trump-pardons-larry-hoover-michael-grimm\/\" rel=\"\">Larry Hoover<\/a>, Baltimore drug kingpin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/pardon\/media\/1402001\/dl?inline\" rel=\"\">Garnett Gilbert Smith<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2025\/12\/02\/hernandez-trump-pardon-prison-honduras\/\" rel=\"\">former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has defended his use of the pardons, saying the people he granted clemency had been pursued by what he considers a corrupt and overzealous Justice Department under Biden. But the attorneys interviewed said they investigated each case scrupulously and apolitically to ensure a fair prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>During his first term in office, Trump issued 238 total acts of clemency.<\/p>\n<p>Biden issued more acts of clemency than any other president. By the end of his term in 2025, he had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2025\/02\/07\/biden-granted-more-acts-of-clemency-than-any-prior-president\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2025\/02\/07\/biden-granted-more-acts-of-clemency-than-any-prior-president\/\">granted<\/a> a total of 4,245 pardons and commutations.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, Justice Department employees vet tens of thousands of applications, only recommending to the president people who have completed their sentences and shown contrition. Trump, however, has pardoned criminals without any such vetting, people familiar with the process said, sometimes granting clemency to convicts who have not started their sentences or admitted wrongdoing.
