He became the seventh White Sox player to hit for the cycle and the first since José Abreu in 2017.

Burke (6-4) struck out nine and gave up four hits. Since June 18, he has allowed only six earned runs in 32 innings.

Former White Sox Aaron Civale (5-7) took the loss for the Athletics after surrendering four runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Tyler Soderstrom scored the Athletics’ only run in the seventh with his 14th home run of the season.

TIGERS 10, PHILLIES 2

DETROIT — James Outman hit a two-run triple during a five-run sixth inning and Detroit won its sixth straight game beating Philadelphia.

All-Star Kevin McGonigle homered for the Tigers, who are 22-12 since June 1 but still six games under .500 at 44-50.

Jack Flaherty (3-8) improved to 3-1 in his last six starts, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks in six innings, striking out six.

The Phillies’ Derek Hill hit a solo homer in the top of the third inning, but McGonigle put the Tigers in front with a two-run shot in the bottom half. McGonigle, who grew up about eight miles from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, was facing the Phillies for the first time and will head there next week for the All-Star Game.

The Phillies loaded the bases with one out in the fourth on two walks and a hit batter. Flaherty struck out Gabriel Rincones Jr. before Hill lined an RBI single to left to tie it at 2-all.

Tim Mayza (2-3) replaced Aaron Nola for the sixth and started the inning by walking Riley Greene. After Spencer Torkelson lined out, pinch-hitter Matt Vierling walked and Eduardo Valencia put the Tigers ahead 3-2 with an RBI single.

Zach McKinstry put down a sacrifice bunt, but Mayza threw wildly to first, allowing Vierling to score. Outman followed with a triple to center field to put the Tigers ahead 6-2, then came home on Mayza’s balk.

Colt Keith and Torkelson homered in the seventh to make it 10-2.

ORIOLES 5, ROYALS 3

BALTIMORE — Samuel Basallo hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning, and Baltimore defeated Kansas City in the opener of a three-game series between last-place teams.

Blaze Alexander also homered for Baltimore.

Jac Caglianone and Isaac Collins hit solo shots for Kansas City, which has lost three in a row and 11 of 15.

Matt Strahm (3-2) entered with the game tied at 3-all and yielded a leadoff single to Pete Alonso. Basallo then hooked a 1-2 slider just inside the foul pole in right for his 15th homer of the season and chucked his bat with both hands toward the Orioles dugout in celebration.

Baltimore led 3-2 entering the eighth, and manager Craig Albernaz allowed starter Brandon Young to stay in with only 77 pitches. But Collins capped an eight-pitch at-bat with a shot to center to chase the right-hander.

Young allowed three runs in seven-plus innings and struck out five.

Rico Garcia (4-1) relieved Young and retired all three batters he faced. Andrew Kittredge worked around Michael Massey’s one-out double in the ninth for his third save and second in as many days.

GUARDIANS 3, MARLINS 2

MIAMI — Parker Messick gave up one hit and one run in six strong innings, Chase DeLauter hit a home run, and Cleveland beat Miami.

Messick (8-5) had a no-hitter going through five innings before Heriberto Hernández hit a solo home run in the sixth to break it up. Messick walked four and struck out one.

Cade Smith earned his MLB-leading 28th save of the season with a hitless ninth.

DeLauter got the Guardians on the board in the fourth inning with his 10th homer of the season, a 430-foot shot to right-center field, for a 2-0 lead.

Bazzana tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly that plated Austin Hedges in the fifth to give the Guardians a 3-0 lead.

Sandy Alcantara (10-5) took his first loss since May 26 after pitching seven innings and allowing three runs. He struck out eight while giving up five hits in his 14th quality start of the season.

REDS 4, CUBS 0

CINCINNATI — Hunter Greene struck out 12 and allowed three hits in seven dominant innings, Elly De La Cruz and JJ Bleday homered and Cincinnati beat Chicago.

Greene (1-1) missed the first three months of the season after undergoing surgery on March 11 to remove bone chips from his right elbow. The right-hander struggled in his debut on July 4 against Baltimore, going 3 1/3 innings and tying a career high with eight earned runs allowed.

The 26-year-old Greene bounced back with one of the best outings of his five-year career, throwing 68 strikes on 93 pitches. The 12 strikeouts tied for the second-most of his career and he threw 19 first-pitch strikes to the 25 batters he faced.

Greene allowed just four baserunners, with only two reaching second base. Chicago had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, but Nico Hoerner lined out to center and Michael Conforto struck out.

Emilio Pagán finished for his eighth save in 11 opportunities.

RAYS 7, MARINERS 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Junior Caminero hit his 28th homer , one of four longballs for Tampa Bay, and All-Star Nick Martinez pitched effectively into the sixth inning as the Rays beat Seattle.

Richie Palacios, Cedric Mullins and Victor Mesa Jr. hit solo shots.

Martinez (8-2) allowed two runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. The 35-year-old right-hander got his first All-Star nod earlier Friday, replacing injured Boston left-hander Ranger Suárez .

The Mariners, who were just swept by the Marlins in Miami, have lost four straight to fall behind Texas into second in the AL West.

Caminero doubled and scored on a two-out single by Chandler Simpson to make it 1-0 in the third. In the seventh, he hit an opposite-field, two-run shot to right against Jose Ferrer that put Tampa Bay ahead 6-2.

Palacios led off the fourth with a 396-foot shot off Mariners starter Luis Castillo (3-8).

Mullins fouled off consecutive two-strike pitches before he hit a slider over the wall in right field and Mesa added a 398-foot shot — also off a two-strike slider — that made it 4-1 in the fifth.

RANGERS 7, ASTROS 3

ARLINGTON, Texas — Wyatt Langford and Jake Burger homered in a four-run eighth inning as Texas beat Houston.

Langford’s leadoff homer and Burger’s three-run shot came off Bryan King (2-2) after the Astros had rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to tie the score in the seventh inning. Houston’s rally included Yordan Alvarez’s 200th career home run, his 30th of the season.

Langford hit a walk-off homer on Thursday night in a 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels hours after being reinstated from the injured list.

Cole Winn (5-2) retired all four batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings for his second win in two nights.

Read more Blue Jays’ Okamoto hits 22nd homer to tie Ohtani’s mark by a Japanese-born rookie

The Rangers lead the AL West by 1½ games over Seattle and three games over the Astros. Houston has lost three of its last four games.

ANGELS 4, TWINS 3

MINNEAPOLIS — Vaughn Grissom went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Los Angeles beat Minnesota to snap a five-game skid at Target Field.

Grayson Rodriguez (3-2) gave up three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings while Kirby Yates pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save this season.

Wade Meckler and Tyler Heineman also had two hits apiece for the Angels.

Brooks Lee and Josh Bell each went 2 for 4 with a double for the Twins.

The Angels, who have lost eight of their last 10 games, have the worst record in the major leagues.

Grissom hit the first pitch of the fourth inning over the wall in left field. Jorge Soler followed with a double and later scored on a balk by Twins starter Zebby Matthews (4-6) that gave LA a 2-1 lead.

Matthews allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings.

RED SOX 6, METS 2

NEW YORK — Sonny Gray shook off travel woes that led to the Red Sox making a late arrival to New York, pitching six strong innings as Boston beat the Mets.

The game started at 7:51 p.m. EDT, 36 minutes later than scheduled, after Gray and the Red Sox — who were grounded in Chicago for nearly 24 hours due to a pair of mechanical issues on their plane — didn’t walk into the visitor’s clubhouse at Citi Field until 5:05 p.m.

Gray (11-1) allowed one run and struck out five as the Red Sox extended their season-best winning streak to seven games. The veteran right-hander is unbeaten in his last 13 starts and has a 2.03 ERA in that span.

Tayron Guerrero worked the seventh and Garrett Whitlock wriggled out of a two-on, none-out jam in the eighth before Greg Weissert gave up a homer to Brett Baty in the ninth.

Anthony Seigler and Wilyer Abreu each hit two-run homers while Masataka Yoshida doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Red Sox.

Boston is 12-2 since June 25, when the Red Sox arrived home from Denver at near-dawn due to a mechanical malfunction on their plane.

YANKEES 5, NATIONALS 3

WASHINGTON — Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to lift the New York Yankees over Washington.

The Yankees and Nationals rank 1-2 in the major leagues in home runs, and all but one run in this game came via the long ball. Ben Rice hit his 29th of the season for the Yankees, and Jasson Domínguez and Austin Wells also went deep for New York.

Keibert Ruiz and James Wood homered on consecutive pitches in the seventh to give Washington a 3-2 lead, but in the ninth, the Nationals brought in left-hander Matt Krook — who had allowed 22 earned runs in 12 2/3 big league innings dating to 2023. Krook (0-1) yielded a one-out single by Domínguez, and Chisholm followed with his 13th homer.

Wells added a solo shot off Justin Lawrence to make it 5-3.

David Bednar (3-3) won in relief, working the final two innings. The Yankees remained four games behind first-place Tampa Bay in the AL East.

BLUE JAYS 5, PADRES 3

SAN DIEGO — Kazuma Okamoto hit his 22nd home run to tie Shohei Ohtani for the most by a Japanese-born rookie in a season in the majors to lead Toronto to a victory over San Diego.

Okamoto drove a tiebreaking, three-run shot into the left-field seats on a 95-mph sinker from reliever Jhony Brito with one out in the fifth.

Ohtani was with the Los Angeles Angels when he hit 22 in 2018. Ohtani, in his third season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, hit his 300th career homer on Tuesday night against Colorado’s Michael Lorenzen to become the first Japanese-born player in the majors to reach the milestone.

Okamoto, 30, hit his first grand slam on Wednesday at San Francisco.

Okamoto’s 22 homers before the All-Star break are the most by a Blue Jays player since Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 28 and Marcus Semien’s 22 in 2021, and the most by a Toronto rookie in franchise history.

The Blue Jays snapped a three-game losing streak while handing the Padres their 11th loss in 14 games.

Mason Fluharty (4-0) got the win. Louis Varland allowed a run on three hits in the ninth for his 19th save.

DIAMONDBACKS 9, DODGERS 3

LOS ANGELES — Eduardo Rodríguez shook off Shohei Ohtani’s leadoff homer to throw six solid innings, Tim Tawa homered and drove in four runs and Arizona beat Los Angeles.

Rodríguez (8-3) didn’t allow another run after giving up back-to-back homers to Ohtani and Andy Pages to start the game.

Gabriel Moreno had two RBIs to help Arizona to its first win at Dodger Stadium in four tries this season.

Ohtani had been scheduled to pitch, but the Dodgers went with a bullpen game instead as the Japanese two-way star has been dealing with left knee inflammation for at least a month. Ohtani will have his left knee drained on Sunday , and the procedure will force him to miss next week’s All-Star Game in Philadelphia, but Ohtani will continue to start at designated hitter for the three-game series against the Diamondbacks.

Ohtani cracked a 381-foot homer to left center on the third pitch he saw. It was his eighth leadoff homer, tying Nationals slugger James Wood for the National League league lead.

Arizona took control when Tawa hit his second homer of the season off a fastball in the fourth inning before adding two more runs in each of the next two frames.

CARDINALS 2, BRAVES 1

ST. LOUIS — Jimmy Crooks homered in the eighth inning and St. Louis beat Atlanta in a game that featured a 2-hour, 44-minute rain delay.

Crooks entered the game in the seventh as a defensive replacement, then hit his second home run off the season off Danny Young (0-1) 405 feet into the right-center field bleachers to break a 1-1 tie.

JoJo Romero (1-2) pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Riley O’Brien pitched the ninth for his 23rd save of the season.

Jordan Walker hit an RBI single to right field off Didier Fuentes in the sixth inning to drive in JJ Wetherholt.

Mike Yastrzemski hit a double down the right field line off George Soriano and scored on Austin Riley’s single up the middle to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning.

Ozzie Albies had a 1-2 count against Kyle Leahy when play was stopped at 8:02 p.m. in the top of the fourth inning because of the heavy rain that flooded the dugouts and the field.
