Vice President JD Vance said that his lifestyle was \u201ctotally transformed\u201d after taking office, noting that he flies on his own plane, never goes to the grocery store and has an \u201carmy of people\u201d willing to \u201ccook me my food.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cI still haven\u2019t gotten used to it,\u201d Vance said in an interview with podcaster Mike Rowe<\/a> this week. \u201cMy life is so weird.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comments come amid a national debate ahead of November\u2019s midterm elections over the high prices of everything from groceries to housing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Vance, 41, said his new way of life came with a new worry. \u201cIt can become the sort of thing that if you internalize it, you start to be an entitled a–hole,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Vance was raised by his grandparents and said his grandmother \u2014 whom he calls Mamaw \u2014 would want him not to \u201cget too big for my britches.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also reflected on the experience of traveling in the vice-presidential motorcade, which he called a \u201cridiculous spectacle\u201d and \u201cthe thing that money can\u2019t buy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance recalled that he was once in a motorcade in Florida with billionaire Trump backer Elon Musk on the way to Mar-a-Lago. Traffic was totally shut down on the route to let the motorcade pass, Vance said.<\/p>

\u201cAnd Elon\u2019s like, \u2018You know, I can buy a lot,\u2019\u201d Vance remembered. \u201c\u2018But I can\u2019t buy that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance\u2019s comments drew criticism from some Democrats as out of touch. \u201cHardworking Americans from coast to coast are struggling to put food on the table to feed their families,\u201d wrote Rep. Marcy Kaptur<\/a> (D-Ohio) on X with a link to Vance\u2019s remarks about not having to shop or cook.<\/p>\n

Priorities USA, a political action committee supporting Democratic candidates, recently mocked Vance<\/a> over promises he made early last year that lower prices were ahead for consumers.<\/p>\n

In the hour-long podcast interview, Vance also talked about the process of writing his new memoir, \u201cCommunion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

He credited his wife, Usha Vance, with sharpening his prose. \u201cShe\u2019s a very sweet person but a very brutal editor,\u201d Vance said. \u201cShe is one of the few people who can just tell me, \u2018This sounds like garbage,\u2019 and help me fix it.\u201d<\/p>
