LeBron James announced Friday that he will join the Philadelphia 76ers, ending weeks of speculation around the NBA\u2019s most anticipated offseason decision and choosing a fourth team for what could be the final stop of his career.<\/p>

\u201cI believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team,\u201d James wrote on social media<\/a>, \u201cand I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.\u201d<\/p>\n

James will sign a two-year, $8 million contract that includes a player option, his agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN. The 41-year-old James said he initially believed he had played his final game last season but concluded after several weeks of reflection that he still wants to compete.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still truly love this game, and I have more to give,\u201d James wrote. \u201cThis is my last decision. I\u2019m not going for money. I\u2019m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?\u201d<\/p>

His answer is another championship. James already has four championships on his r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and will attempt to end a Philadelphia title drought that dates to 1983.<\/p>\n

James\u2019s decision ends an eight-year tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers that included the 2020 NBA championship.<\/p>\n
