President Donald Trump recognized lifeguard Ryder Williams, 16, in the Oval Office on Monday afternoon, about three weeks after Williams saved a child from pounding waves<\/a> in Santa Cruz, California.<\/p>

\u201cWhat you did was incredible,\u201d Trump told Williams. \u201c… When I first saw it, I said: \u2018Roll that back. I want to see that again. Is that really happening?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

A few days after a video of Williams\u2019s July 25 rescue went viral, Trump wrote<\/a> on X: \u201cWe\u2019re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House.\u201d On Monday afternoon, Trump also recognized the rescued child, whom White House officials identified as Nathaniel Rai, 10.<\/p>\n

The president called Williams \u201ca real hero.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019d do it,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t, probably,\u201d he added, before smiling and turning to Nathaniel: \u201cYou\u2019re lucky I wasn\u2019t on the service that day.\u201d<\/p>

Williams, a first-year lifeguard, said he hopes his actions inspire others.<\/p>\n
