ARLINGTON, Texas — Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels appeared to suffer a significant injury to his left elbow on the final play of the first half against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

He was carted off the field at AT&T Stadium, ruled out for the rest of the game and replaced by Marcus Mariota to start the second half.
The Commanders were trailing the Cowboys 17-10 with three seconds remaining in the second quarter when Daniels got injured. With the offense facing a third down at Dallas’s 1-yard line, Coach Dan Quinn went for a touchdown to tie the game rather than settle for a field goal attempt.
After Daniels took the snap, he tripped over an offensive lineman’s foot and extended his left arm to attempt to catch himself. Daniels’s arm then bent awkwardly before he flung the ball away. The third-year player initially attempted to run to the sidelines but collapsed in pain on the field.

Daniels was subsequently surrounded by trainers and teammates before a cart took him off the field.
Last November, Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It’s unclear whether he suffered the same injury against the Cowboys, but his left arm was in an air cast.
It was a dour end to an otherwise strong first half for Daniels, who went 11 of 17 for 96 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 69 yards.
