House Democrats warned acting intelligence czar Bill Pulte on Thursday not to selectively declassify election-related intelligence, citing fears that the White House is pushing his office to weaponize such data “to validate debunked conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.”

In a letter to Pulte, Rep. Jim Himes (Connecticut) and fellow Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee demanded to review any such intelligence before it is released. As recently as 2024, they wrote, American spy agencies found no evidence that foreign adversaries have been able to interfere with U.S. voter data or vote counting.

The letter comes a day after President Donald Trump said he had given Pulte, his acting director of national intelligence, permission to “declassify whatever you want,” including material related to the 2020 election.

Trump has long falsely claimed that he beat Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential contest, citing claims of fraud that have repeatedly been debunked by courts and independent observers.

Pulte has used his position as a federal mortgage regulator to investigate Trump’s adversaries. In his new intelligence post, he has hired a Republican election operative, Christina Norton, as his chief of staff.

In their letter, the Democrats said Pulte’s office has failed to adequately brief Congress on potential threats to the 2026 election, as required by law.
