Spain, which won the 2023 World Cup in Australia and is currently the No. 1 team in FIFA’s global rankings, is coming to D.C. and Philadelphia for a pair of friendlies against the United States in October. Audi Field will host the first game Oct. 10, and the two teams will then play at Subaru Park on Oct. 13.

“Two more fantastic matches,” U.S. Coach Emma Hayes said in a statement. “We’ve desperately wanted to get Spain on our schedule, but the difficulties of scheduling the top teams during the women’s international calendar are well known, so to be able to get these two games on the East Coast will be the perfect tests before we head into World Cup qualifying at the end of the year.”

Spain has already qualified for the 2027 World Cup, to be hosted in Brazil, after winning direct qualification during the June international window. In the absence of needing to play further matches in the October window for World Cup qualifying, Spain was available to come to the U.S. for the two matches.

For the U.S., the World Cup qualification process will begin in November, when it faces El Salvador in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf W Championship.

The game at Audi Field will also include a pregame retirement ceremony for Crystal Dunn, who officially retired from soccer in January and was the NWSL MVP in 2015 while playing for the Washington Spirit. It will be the fourth game for the U.S. women at Audi Field; in the most recent appearance, they beat Canada, 3-0, last July.

Just over a month after the Spain friendly, Audi Field will host another significant women’s soccer game: the 2026 NWSL championship.
