Americans of both parties are concerned about election integrity and democratic processes ahead of the midterm elections, a new Gallup poll shows.

Sixty-seven percent of Americans are concerned about political leaders pressuring election officials to change election outcomes, according to the poll, including 77 percent of Democrats and 56 percent of Republicans. More Republicans, 66 percent, said they were concerned about ballots being improperly handled, counted or secured, compared with 52 percent of Democrats.
The poll found that most Americans, including 78 percent of Republicans, are also concerned with ineligible voters casting ballots in elections.
The poll also shows that Americans are concerned about the political system outside of elections. Eighty percent said they are concerned about political leaders taking possibly illegal actions, 77 percent said so for gerrymandering, and 64 percent expressed concern with people being harmed during peaceful protests by federal agents, military or law enforcement.

The poll comes as President Donald Trump has sought to change election rules ahead of the midterms. Republican officials have grown increasingly concerned with election security in recent years, prompting efforts to crack down on mail-in voting, impose voter identification checks when casting ballots, and mandate citizenship tests to register to vote.
Republican senators have rebuffed Trump’s asks to pass the identification and proof of citizenship requirements, and courts have pushed back on several administration priorities related to elections.
The Gallup poll was conducted online and by mail between April 24 and June 10 among 21,652 U.S. adults.
