Does the Senate spend too much time out of Washington?
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Florida) thinks so. In a Fox News op-ed published Monday, the hard-line conservative asserted that the upper chamber takes too many recesses and has too short of a workweek. “We have the strongest economy because of the workers who bust their butts every day to do their jobs, provide for their families and achieve the American Dream,” he wrote. “I think the Senate should demonstrate the kind of work ethic we depend on from the American people to keep our economy running.”
Scott’s argument is not new. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) pushed for a five-day workweek during his 2024 run for majority leader. He lost the race to Sen. John Thune (R-South Dakota).
