About a year ago, cuts to the nation’s largest food assistance program went into effect as part of the Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill, affecting about 4.5 million Americans. Nearly all House Republicans voted for reductions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), despite pleas from food banks and anti-hunger organizations.

On Wednesday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee plans to roll out mobile billboards targeting a handful of House Republicans in swing districts who voted for the cuts, accusing them of taking food off voters’ plates.
The Republicans’ signature piece of legislation, which was signed into law in July 2025, imposed new work requirements for some individuals participating in SNAP. When voting in favor of the cuts, Republicans said that they were seeking to root fraud out of the program and that the cuts would make it fiscally responsible.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the changes resulted in an 11 percent drop in SNAP participation, including 1.1 million children losing their food assistance benefit after their guardian became ineligible for it. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that by 2034, the Republican law will result in cuts of about $187 billion to the food assistance program.

The billboards are slated to travel to the districts of Reps. Juan Ciscomani (Arizona), Gabe Evans (Colorado), Mike Lawler (New York), Ryan Mackenzie (Pennsylvania) and Monica De La Cruz (Texas).
