The prominent Democratic organization Emily’s List weighed in on the high-stakes Senate primary race in Michigan on Monday, backing Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Michigan).
The race is a proxy fight between the moderate and liberal wings of the Democratic Party. Winning the swing-state battleground in November is critical to determining which party holds power in the Senate next year.
The Emily’s List endorsement follows state Sen. Mallory McMorrow dropping out of the race Sunday amid lagging fundraising and polling.

McMorrow tried to occupy a liberal lane between Stevens, a moderate backed by establishment Democrats, and former public health official Abdul El-Sayed, who is surging in the polls and popular among the party’s left wing.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and the pro-Israel group AIPAC have been two of Stevens’s biggest backers, while El-Sayed has endorsements from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont).
